A break in the humidity – 4M, 7/26/2010

We finally had a break in the unrelenting humidity today, though the temperature was still in the 80s. I went out to do a 10mi long run, which was on my training schedule for yesterday, but was feeling a lot of fatigue in my legs, so I stopped after 4mi and then used the exercise bike in the gym for 45min when I got home. Somehow I’m going to have to get back to very regular running to rebuild the strength in my legs.

Marathon Training Begins – 6mi, 7/21/10

The fast on Tuesday pushed the start of my training schedule by a day, but I was able to get out last night and do my first 6mi “easy run.” It’s clear to me that my conditioning is down from where I’d like, and the extreme humidity doesn’t help. I’m hoping to really stick with my training program, taken from RunnersWorld.com, to build back up.

Not quite as humid after dark, 7/15/10

Stacey and I got out after dark, when the heat and humidity broke some, to take an easy 4mi run in Central Park. I’m hoping to get myself onto a regular schedule beginning next week, when I fall within 16 weeks of the NYC Marathon (Nov. 7).

Wall Street Run (3M), 6/24/2010

This evening was the NYRR Wall Street Run. This is the third WSR that I’ve run, and WSR ’08 was my first formal race (and first NYRR race). I set my PR pace at last year’s WSR, but today was really hot (87 deg) and humid (57%) and my training has been pretty weak lately. In the end I took two walking breaks during the race, but still posted a 9:22/mi pace, which isn’t terrible. I’ve gotta get back on a regular training schedule!

Slow morning run on the CP Loop, 6/9/2010

I forced my way through the tired and got out for a run on the CP loop. It was a bit slower, and took a bit more effort, than I expected, but that’s the price I pay for taking so many days off, I guess.

Morning ride in CP, 6/8/2010

I got out for two laps of the CP loop this morning on my bike this morning. This probably qualifies as my first training ride of the season, and I hope to get out more regularly so that I’ll be in proper shape to take on the century route during the Hazon ride over Labor Day. Hazy hot and humid for Japan Day 4M, 6/6/2010

It was a pretty gross day yesterday for NYRR’s Japan Day 4-miler. As a nice change, the race started and ended on the 102nd St transverse, rather than down below 72nd, but the route was otherwise the standard 4 mile loop. I probably shouldn’t have passed up all of the water stations, but it ended fine, if a bit slow.

Evening Central Park Run, 5/15/2010

Stacey and I went for a nice 5 mile run this evening in Central Park, taking the north loop. It was a good run and we finished really strong up the incline at 94th.

NYRR R Baby Mother’s Day 4M, 5/9/2010

I had a pretty nice run this morning for the R Baby Mother’s Day 4-miler in CP, even though I haven’t run at all since my last race – three weeks ago. I actually got out of the house a bit late, and had a nice warm-up run to get to the starting line (a few minutes after the 8:00 am start) from the 72nd & Bway subway stop. It was a very windy and chilly race, but a nice run, nonetheless.

NYRR Run for the Parks, 4M, 4/18/2010

This morning I ran one of my fastest races ever (my fastest 4M, though I have a faster 5M and 3M). I wasn’t trying to push my pace, but just went out relatively strong and was able to keep it up. I felt good throughout pretty much the whole race. I’m not sure how much I should credit the pre-race warm-up run, which was more than a mile, but that definitely worked out the kinks and is probably something worth trying again.
